چکیده

An accurate approximate formula of the die-out probability in a SIS epidemic process on a network is proposed. The formula contains only three essential parameters: the largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of the network, the effective infection rate of the virus, and the initial number of infected nodes in the network. The die-out probability formula is compared with the exact die-out probability in complete graphs, Erdős-Rényi graphs, and a power-law graph. Furthermore, as an example, the formula is applied to the N-Intertwined Mean-Field Approximation, to explicitly incorporate the die-out.

Epidemic Spread in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks: Determining the Tipping Point

Short-range, point-to-point communications for mobile users enjoy increasing popularity, particularly with the rise in Bluetooth-equipped mobile devices. Unfortunately, virus writers have begun exploiting lax security in many mobile devices and subsequently developed malware exploiting proximity-based propagation mechanisms (e.g. Cabir or CommWarrior). So, if given an ad-hoc network of such mob...

Steady States of Epidemic Spreading in Small-World Networks

We consider a standard susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) model to study behaviors of steady states of epidemic spreading in smallworld networks. Using analytical methods and large scale simulations, we recover the usual epidemic behavior with a critical threshold λc below which infectious diseases die out. Whereas for the spreading rate λ far above λc, it was found that the density of infe...

Comparing the Behaviour of Deterministic and Stochastic Model of SIS Epidemic

Studies about epidemic modelling have been conducted since before 19th century. Both deterministic and stochastiic model were used to capture the dynamic of infection in the population. The purpose of this project is to investigate the behaviour of the models when we set the basic reproduction number, R0. This quantity is defined as the expected number of contacts made by a typical infective to...

Unexpected epidemic thresholds in heterogeneous networks: the role of disease transmission.

We reformulate several recent analyses of infection processes on highly heterogeneous networks (e.g., scale-free networks) which conclude that diseases will spread and persist even for vanishingly small transmission probabilities. The results of these latter studies contrast with conventional epidemiological models where there are clear threshold effects, namely, should the transmission probabi...

Universality of the SIS prevalence in networks

Epidemic models are increasingly used in real-world networks to understand di§usion phenom-ena (such as the spread of diseases, emotions, innovations, failures) or the transport of information(such as news, memes in social on-line networks). A new analysis of the prevalence, the expectednumber of infected nodes in a network, is presented and physically interpreted. The analysis meth...
